The HTC Vive Focus Plus is a highly capable standalone headset for both enterprise applications and enthusiast VR users, but its heavy reliance on the primary USB-C power and data port makes it incredibly susceptible to physical fatigue. Playing while tethered to a power bank, tripping over a link cable, or repeatedly plugging and unplugging the headset places severe lateral stress on the internal connection points. Over time, this mechanical tension fractures the rigid, lead-free solder joints anchoring the port to the motherboard. Once these micro-fractures occur, your headset is left completely dead or suffering from frustratingly unstable connections.
If the port on your Vive Focus Plus has been compromised, you will typically experience one or more of the following issues:
Many manufacturers or generic repair shops will tell you that a damaged charging port requires a complete—and very expensive—motherboard replacement. At RockIT Repairs, our microsoldering experts tackle the problem at the component level to save your original logic board.
First, we perform a meticulously documented teardown of your Vive Focus Plus. We carefully extract the optical housing and disconnect the delicate flex cables, ZIF connectors, and ribbon cables that bridge the display panels, battery, and tracking sensors.
Once the motherboard is successfully isolated, it is placed under a high-magnification stereo microscope. Using precision hot air rework stations and high-quality flux, our technicians safely reflow the solder to extract the damaged Surface Mount Device (SMD) port. We are highly careful to properly shield surrounding thermal-sensitive BGA chips and micro-capacitors during this step.
Next, we clean and re-tin the copper mounting pads using a premium leaded solder alloy, which is far more flexible and resistant to future cracking than factory solder. A brand-new, OEM-spec charging receptacle is then micro-soldered into place, ensuring perfect electrical continuity across all tiny data pins and robust structural integrity on the grounding anchor legs. Finally, the headset is reassembled, subjected to a multimeter voltage draw check, and put through a rigorous live VR diagnostic test.
We know how frustrating it is to have an expensive VR headset turned into a paperweight by a single broken connector. RockIT Repairs has been specializing in complex electronics repair since 2011, restoring thousands of devices for our customers.
We always provide Free Diagnostic Estimates so you know exactly what the repair entails before committing. Best of all, our process is entirely risk-free: if we evaluate your HTC Vive Focus Plus and you decide to decline the repair, RockIT Repairs will cover the return shipping costs to get your device back to you safely.
