Mainboard USB-C port micro-soldering
Technician Notes
If your headset won't charge or the port feels loose, you likely need a charging port replacement. We perform expert micro-soldering to remove the damaged USB-C connector and install a new one directly onto the mainboard.
Diagnostic Symptoms
- Headset won't charge or charges intermittently
- Oculus Link / Quest Link fails to connect to PC
- Visible charring, melting, or smell of ozone from the port
- USB-C cable feels loose or falls out easily
The RockIT Process
We remove the damaged port under a 40x microscope, rebuild any torn copper pads using micro-jumpers, and solder a new high-retention USB-C connector. We apply UV-cured solder mask to reinforce the repair and prevent future shorts.
Expert Prevention Advice
Use a high-quality Link cable with a 90-degree connector. Secure the cable to your headstrap with a velcro tie to act as a strain relief. Avoid charging while the headset is in a hot environment.
Homeowner Prevention Guide
The Quest 2 is a workhorse, but its Fresnel lenses are highly susceptible to sun damage; never leave it near a window. Use a silicone face cover to prevent sweat from seeping into the internal electronics during active games. Ensure you untwist your Link cable after every session to prevent internal wire breakage and port stress.
