Our Component-Level Repair Process

When your Vive Cosmos arrives at our lab, we initiate a strict Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) safe teardown. We carefully unseat the delicate flex cables, potentiometers, and ribbon connectors to isolate the main logic board without causing collateral damage. Using high-magnification microscopes, our lead technicians inspect the solder joints securing the data and power connectors to the Printed Circuit Board (PCB).

In most cases, physical strain fractures the solder joints, or worse, rips the Surface Mount Device (SMD) port directly off the logic board, occasionally tearing the copper pads with it. To execute the repair, we utilize precision hot-air rework stations and premium flux to safely extract the compromised port without reflowing adjacent Ball Grid Array (BGA) chips.

If the mounting pads are torn, our microsoldering experts will rebuild the damaged micro-traces using specialized copper wire and UV-cured solder mask. Once the foundation is restored, we micro-solder a brand-new, factory-spec connector to the motherboard. We then reinforce the anchoring points to ensure the new port has superior structural integrity before reassembling the headset and running rigorous stress tests in SteamVR.
