However, due to its age and the materials used in its construction, we consistently see a highly frustrating issue come across our workbenches: severely scratched and degraded lenses. The Quest 1 utilizes custom polymer Fresnel lenses designed for optimal light refraction and weight reduction. Unfortunately, this lightweight polycarbonate is highly susceptible to micro-abrasions from abrasive cleaning cloths, dust particles, and friction from users wearing prescription glasses inside the headset. Over time, these micro-abrasions compound into a hazy, refractive nightmare that shatters immersion and causes severe eye strain.

Common Symptoms of Degraded Quest 1 Optics

Extracting the sealed LCD and lens assembly requires a steady hand. We must bypass the main logic board without stressing the adjacent BGA (Ball Grid Array) chipsets or delicate SMD (Surface Mount Device) components. Once the damaged assembly is extracted, we install a pristine, factory-spec optical matrix. We then reseat all FPC connectors under magnification, recalibrate the IPD sensors, and run a full diagnostic to verify flawless focal clarity before fully reassembling your headset.
